Descriptive paragraphs create a vivid image or picture for readers. Good writers choose just the right adjectives to reveal how something looks, sounds, smells, tastes, and feels. Your students will compare two paragraphs to see which creates a more vivid picture. They then are asked to cut out a picture of something interesting and brainstorm a list of adjectives and descriptive phrases to describe it. Finally, they will write a paragraph about the picture making sure to include a topic sentence to grab the readers attention, supporting sentences that include the adjectives and descriptive phrases they have written.
