What’s something each of your students has that no one else has? As they work at this center, students will be delighted to discover that their fingerprints are uniquely theirs! This center is perfect for helping students learn more about themselves and for introducing students to each other, to you, and to science centers!

Teaching Tips

Use thumbprint graphs to practice math skills like counting, ordering, and addition. Ask students: How many fingerprints match the arch pattern? the whorl? the loop? Which fingerprint pattern is most common in our class? Go further to look at handedness. Students can count, record, and compare the number of left-handed and righthanded classmates.
