This four-page test was culled from the Basic Skills Practice Tests provided twice a year to Scholastic News Edition 3 subscribers, with some new and revised material. By familiarizing students with the skills, language, and formats they will encounter on state and national tests, like the Terra Nova, ITBS, CTBS, and MAT, this practice test will boost confidence and help raise scores.

(Practice tests 6-11 are slightly more difficult than practice tests 1-5. They are designed to be given in the second half of the school year.)

Teaching Tips

Give students the sense of taking standardized tests when they work on these practice tests. Do the sample questions together and go over the directions for each section, making sure that students understand them. After each test, review it together to reinforce specific skills!
