Boost confidence and help raise test scores by introducing students to the skills, language, and formats they will encounter on state and national tests with this reading skills pracice test. See Full Product Description.
Designed to help you help students succeed on standardized tests, this test was culled from the Basic Skills Practice Tests provided three times a year to Scholastic News Senior Edition subscribers. By familiarizing children with the skills, language, and formats they will encounter on state and national tests, like the Terra Nove, ITBS, CTBS, and MAT, this practice test will boost confidence and help raise scores. Before administering the test, establish a relaxed atmosphere. Tell students that they will not be graded, that this is just test taking practice. Review the directions, then read the samples in each section and discuss the answers. If you choose to set time limits, allow 20-25 minutes for the first three pages of the test (reading comprehension), plus another 10 minutes for the last portion of the test (vocabulary). After the test, review it together to reinforce specific skills. In addition to helping children prepare for "real" tests, this practice test may be used as a diagnostic tool, to help you detect individual students' strengths and weaknesses, or as an instructional tool, for oral reading and discussion. (this test is best given in the first half of the school year)
