Teach students how to avoid and mend conflicts even before they arise by creating collaborative Conflict Cubes. Students design these cubes in groups by considering typical classroom conflicts. They then devise solutions including ways to discuss calmly, using I-messages, compromising, cooling off, and more. Further the activity by having students role play how they would use these methods to solve problems.
Conflict resolution is like any other skill—it needs to be taught and reinforced. Have students work thoughtfully on this activity and display these cubes within reach for students to refer to when conflicts arise.
